City Hurricane Irma Response and Recovery Efforts

Hurricane Irma moved through our community, leaving behind downed trees and electric lines, broken power poles and widespread power outages. Since last night, 56,000 outages have occurred; crews have restored 34,000. City of Tallahassee electric utility and mutual aid crews are actively working to restore the remaining customers. Crews will continue to work around the clock for full restoration.
To assist citizens impacted by Hurricane Irma, the City will open the following comfort stations beginning tomorrow, Sept. 12, at 8 a.m. to allow residents a place to cool off and recharge while enjoying a variety of family friendly activities.
- Tallahassee Senior Center, 1400 N. Monroe Street
- Jack McLean Community Center, 700 Paul Russell Road
- Walker-Ford Community Center, 2301 Pasco Street
- Lawrence Gregory Community Center, 1115 Dade Street
- Jake Gaither Community Center, 801 Bragg Drive
- Sue McCollum Community Center, 501 Ingleside Ave
In addition, Leon County will open a comfort station at the LeRoy Collins Leon County Main Library, 200 W. Park Avenue, that will operate from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
For citizens in need of water, bottled water will be available at the following Tallahassee Fire Stations:
- Station 1, 327 Adams Street
- Station 2, 2805 Sharer Road
- Station 3, 3005 S. Monroe Street
- Station 4, 2899 W. Pensacola Street
- Station 9, 3209 Thomasville Road
Solid waste pick up for residential & commercial customers will resume on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Collection will shift two days (Monday pick up will be on Wednesday, etc.). Sweeps will begin for storm debris communitywide tomorrow, Sept. 12.
Commercial flights at Tallahassee International Airport will resume tomorrow, Sept. 12. Travelers are encouraged to still check the status of their flight with their air carrier.
StarMetro fixed route bus service will resume its regular schedule tomorrow, Sept. 12. Since Florida State University is closed, the Seminole Express will not operate. Visit Talgov.com/StarMetro for route information.
On Tuesday, Sept. 12, City of Tallahassee administrative offices will remain closed as planned. They will re-open on Wednesday, Sept. 13. The City Commission meeting and budget public hearing will be held as scheduled on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, in the City Hall Commission Chambers, second floor, City Hall, 300 S. Adams Street.
