City Expedites Electric Utility Line Upgrades in Advance of Storm
Traffic Impacts Expected on Thomasville Road as Work is Completed
October 04, 2017
Update Oct. 5: Last night crews made significant progress on the transmission line upgrades near Thomasville Road. At this time, daytime lane closures are no longer anticipated. Crews will work overnight to complete the upgrades, which will enhance electric reliability for City customers.
Given the recent forecast of potential severe weather to impact Tallahassee in the coming days, the City of Tallahassee’s Electric Utility will be expediting completion of utility line work, which includes upgrading a transmission line that crosses Thomasville Road north of I-10. To complete the upgrades, a lane closure is required to ensure the work can be completed safely. Previously scheduled as night work to minimize the impacts to traffic, the schedule will be expedited to allow the work to be completed prior to any severe weather anticipated for our area.
Work began at 7 p.m. tonight and crews will work around the clock into the weekend. During this time, there will be periodic lane closures of the inside north bound lane on Thomasville Road between Maclay Commerce Road and Village Square Boulevard. Motorists traveling northbound on Thomasville Road should anticipate traffic delays during their morning commutes on Thursday and Friday.
