Registration to Compete Now Open
January 25, 2018
This year, more than 400 seniors are expected to compete in the ninth annual Capital City Senior Games. The Senior Games, which take place March 2-12, officially get under way with the annual Torch Run around Lake Ella on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 10:30 a.m.
The Capital City Senior Games aim to keep Tallahassee’s senior population active and healthy. Registration for the Senior Games is now open at Talgov.com/Seniors.
“The City offers a variety of programs for Tallahassee’s growing senior population to remain engaged and active in our community,” City Commissioner Gil Ziffer said. “The Capital City Senior Games is a wonderful opportunity for seniors to make new friends and I encourage everyone 50 years and better to sign up for this year’s games.”
Helping to kick off the games and open registration, torchbearers in this year’s Torch Run include accomplished senior athletes, sponsors and local celebrities. The Torch Run will begin at the big oak tree by the southwest parking area (Monroe Street side) at Lake Ella. Torchbearers will proceed around the lake and finish at the gazebo. The public, including all athletes, their friends and family members, are invited to attend, cheering and walking alongside the torchbearers from one station to the next. Motivational posters are strongly encouraged to help inspire the torchbearers forward.
This year’s games feature tried and true competitions designed for all fitness levels, including archery, bag toss, basketball, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, power lifting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field and a one-mile fun run/walk.
