TPD Investigates Shooting

The Tallahassee Police Department responded to 2752 W. Pensacola Street (Marathon Gas Station) in reference to a patron stealing beer from the business. The caller advised the CDA that the customer possibly had a knife and told the call taker that he would shoot him if he pulls it out. The caller called back to the CDA requesting an ambulance advising he had just shot the customer due to him pulling a knife on him.
TPD's Violent Crimes Unit investigators arrived on scene and made contact with several witnesses and reviewed evidence. Investigators were able to determine that the victim was never armed with a knife. After shooting the victim the arrestee removed a knife from behind the counter and placed it on the victim. Investigators were able to establish probable cause to charge the arrestee with Tampering with Evidence, and Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. The arrestee was later transported to the Leon County Detention Facility for processing. The victim is being treated at a local hospital where he is in stable condition.

Original Release
The Tallahassee Police Department is currently investigating a shooting which occurred at 2752 West Pensacola Street at approximately 1:06 p.m. this afternoon. Officers were notified of the shooting incident and responded to the area. Arriving officers and emergency personnel provided immediate medical attention to the injured person who was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The case has been assigned to Investigators with TPD's Violent Crimes Unit. At this time they are interviewing all known witnesses and processing the scene. Investigators are asking anyone with information about this case to please call them at (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS
