On Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 8:59 p.m., Tallahassee Police officers assigned to the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Squad were conducting proactive patrol to prevent criminal activity in the 1500 block of West Tharpe Street. Officers observed suspicious activity indicating probable drug sales in the area. A traffic stop for a seatbelt violation was conducted on a green Chevy Suburban at West Tharpe Street and Meridian Street. Probable cause to search the vehicle was developed and officers conducted an extensive investigation on scene resulting in the arrest of Christopher Dixon. During the officers’ contact with Mr. Dixon, they located a loaded 9mm handgun in the vehicle which had previously been reported stolen on June 30, 2017 during an auto burglary. Inside the vehicle, officers also located over forty-five (45) grams of marijuana, “Molly” or MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethampthetamine), and drug paraphernalia such as a digital scale and multiple plastic bags.
Mr. Dixon had active felony warrants out of Kansas for distributing marijuana and was also listed as an out of state convicted felon. He was arrested for possession of the stolen firearm and the drugs located in his possession. The firearm and drugs were impounded at the Tallahassee Police Department as evidence. Mr. Dixon is currently in the Leon County Detention Facility.
