200 Teeth Molds Obtained in TPD Arrest

Tallahassee Police Department’s Special Investigations Section served search warrants at JPC Jewelers, 1321 Thomasville Road, and 171 Whetherbine Way West on Tuesday April 10, 2018.
TPD had received information that suspicious activity was occurring at JPC Jewelers an investigation was initiated. It was discovered the owner of the business, Jose P. Cancel, was taking impressions of teeth, and creating custom plates also known as “Grills”. Investigators were able to obtain a search warrants for the business and residence of Cancel, along with felony and misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.
As a result of the search warrant, investigators found an active dental laboratory behind the JPC Jewelers storefront with over 200 teeth molds and/or impressions were seized from the business along with over $800 in U.S. Currency. Mr. Cancel was arrested and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility. The investigation is still on going with further pending charges.
The probable cause affidavit is attached to this release and has been redacted in accordance with Florida Statute 119.
