StarMetro Offers Free Rides this Thursday for Dump the Pump Day
National Campaign Encourages Use of Public Transportation
June 18, 2018
Leave your car behind and join StarMetro this Thursday to celebrate the 13th annual National Dump the Pump Day. StarMetro, the City of Tallahassee’s public transit department, will offer fare free rides on all its fixed routes on June 21 to make dumping the pump easier. Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Dump the Pump Day encourages citizens to ride public transportation instead of driving a car.
“More than 80 percent of trips on public transportation are taking people in our community to work or connecting them to local businesses, which directly benefits our economy,” City Commissioner Gil Ziffer said. “We encourage everyone to commit to leaving their car behind for one day and letting StarMetro get you around our beautiful community.”
While you’re riding the bus at no cost, come out to C.K. Steele Plaza, located at 111 W. Tennessee Street, from 3-5 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, to celebrate dumping the pump with StarMetro. Light refreshments will be provided.

Taking public transportation offers many benefits including saving money and helping the environment and local economy. According to the APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-person household can save an average of more than $10,000 annually by downsizing to one car.
