Annual Report Reaffirms the High Quality of City Water
2018 Water Quality Report Now Available
June 26, 2018
The City of Tallahassee has released its 2018 Water Quality Annual Report, and once again, results show the high quality of drinking water provided by the City. Drinking water standards for quality and safety in Florida are established at extremely stringent levels by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Florida Department of Health (DOH).
To maintain the highest drinking water quality, the City operates a nationally-recognized, certified laboratory, which performs water quality analyses with much greater frequency and stricter limits than required by governmental regulations. As seen in the report, the laboratory analyzes over 16,000 samples, testing against 105,000 analytes every year. The 2018 report is based on the results of monitoring for the period of January 1 to December 31, 2017, unless noted otherwise.
"Tallahassee residents are fortunate to have an exceptionally clean and sweet tasting source of drinking water, the Floridan aquifer," Commissioner Nancy Miller said. "The City's professional staff ensures purity through a continuous regime of rigorous testing and through proactive utility maintenance of the water systems, wells and piping throughout the city."
Citizens can help ensure our high-quality product makes it from the municipal pipes to their faucets both now and in the future in two ways. The first is maintaining your home or business's plumbing system. This can include replacing older pipes or flushing the system if it's been stagnant for an extended period. The second is using water wisely. While the Floridan Aquifer offers an ample supply, it's not infinite. Conserving water now safeguards this resource for future generations.
