Tallahassee Burglary Suspect Arrested in Titusville After State Wide Crime Spree

On June 29, 2018, Tallahassee Police officers responded to 2315 Tupelo Terrace regarding a residential burglary. The homeowner reported the burglary occurred sometime between the hours of 1:00 p.m. on June 28, 2018 and 9:50 a.m. on June 29, 2018. The victim reported the home was unoccupied and undergoing renovation. A 2007 Toyota Corolla was parked at the home and was stolen during the burglary. Surveillance video at the home revealed the suspect peering inside the windows and attempting to open the front door.
This case was assigned to the Tallahassee Police Department Burglary Crimes Unit. Photographs of the suspect were released on TPD’s Facebook page on July 2, 2018, seeking information on the identity of the suspect. On July 2, 2018, the suspect was identified by investigators as Benjamin Hovan. A probable cause affidavit was provided to the State Attorney’s Office and warrants were signed by the Honorable J. Layne Smith.
During this time, Mr. Hovan was arrested in Titusville, FL for other crimes he committed in different jurisdictions. Mr. Hovan is being charged with Burglary of an Unoccupied Dwelling, Possession of Burglary Tools, Grand Theft Motor Vehicle and Petit Theft by the Tallahassee Police Department. The Burglary Crimes Unit continues to follow up on this case and communicate with other law enforcement agencies who have cases involving Mr. Hovan.
