Fire Safety Education Ignites Young Minds
TFD Showcases New Ladder Truck at Sabal Palm Elementary
February 14, 2019
When the BEEP of the smoke alarm begins, seconds matter, which is why it’s important to teach little ones how to react. To educate students about fire safety, the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) and its big red truck will roll into Sabal Palm Elementary School, 2813 Ridgeway Street, on Friday, Feb. 15, at 1:30 p.m.
Firefighters will teach first-grade students the importance of not playing with fire; stop, drop and roll; and what to do if a fire occurs in their home. Part of the educational experience will include a hands-on tour of TFD’s new ladder truck. The 2018 E-ONE 100-foot aerial platform truck provides enhanced response and rescue capabilities, enhancing overall community safety.
This outreach effort is designed to help young residents build a connection with first responders and a familiarity with the resources that would arrive during an emergency. This can provide a level of comfort for them during a crisis.
The Tallahassee Fire Department responded to 27,861 calls for service last year. For more information about fire safety and TFD, visit Talgov.com/Fire and like the Tallahassee Fire Department on Facebook.com.
