Clean Up with Cash for Trash
Biannual Event Returns on Saturday, April 20
April 01, 2019
This time of year is synonymous with spring cleaning. As you roll up your sleeves, the trash and clutter filling your house and garage goes to the curb, but the City of Tallahassee offers an alternative. The biannual Cash for Trash event will take place on Saturday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Beautification and Waste Management facility, located at 2727 Municipal Way.
This event, which takes place on the third Saturday of April and October each year, helps enhance the cleanliness of the local environment and community by allowing residents to bring their household hazardous waste items and household trash items that are too large to fit in their 96-gallon garbage container to the City’s Waste Management facility for proper disposal.
Examples of items residents may bring to Cash for Trash include batteries, cleaners, paints, pesticides, solvents and the like. These household hazardous waste items can have serious impacts to the environment if improperly disposed of through the trash or sewer system. Residents may also bring old furniture, large and small household appliances and tires (limit of four per customer; no commercial tires). Items brought to the event are properly disposed of or recycled for beneficial use.
Though the City encourages residential utility customers to use their every-other-week bulky item collection service for disposing of large items at the curb, Cash for Trash provides an alternative method of disposal.
As a thank you, participating City residential utility customers with an active garbage service account will receive a $5 credit toward their utility bill. To receive the utility bill credit, customers must present a City utility bill before unloading materials. Customers can make multiple trips; however, only one credit per utility bill will be provided. This allows customers disposing of items for their neighbors to do so and assist them in reaping the benefits of the Cash for Trash event.
This event is not for commercial customers. Also, no household garbage, construction/demolition debris or yard debris will be accepted.
The City continues to be a leader in the field of sustainability. Annual events, such as Cash for Trash; programs, such as single-stream recycling; and initiatives, such as the recent Clean Energy Resolution adopted by the Tallahassee City Commission, put into action the organization’s commitment to environmentally friendly practices.
Cash for Trash is coordinated by the City’s Community Beautification and Waste Management department. Visit Talgov.com/YOU or call 891-4968 for more information.
