Arrest Made in Numerous 'Smash and Grab' Auto Burglaries

The Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County Sheriff’s Office’s Joint Property Crimes Task Force has been investigating a series of auto burglaries involving smashed windows and stolen property occurring at medical facilities in Northeast Leon County. Since March 2019, investigators have been examining evidence and reviewing cases with the assistance of TPD’s Crime Analysis Unit. The suspect had been seen driving a white SUV and captured on surveillance video using the victims’ credit cards to make fraudulent transactions. Investigators developed a suspect in the numerous auto burglaries and secured fourteen (14) warrants on Derrick Dewayne Fields for auto burglary and fraud related charges.
Mr. Fields was arrested on May 24, 2019 and is currently in the Leon County Detention Facility. Investigators with the Joint Property Crimes Task Force continue to investigate related cases.
