Clear Your Fall Cleaning Checklist with Cash for Trash - CANCELLED
City’s Biannual Event Returns on October 19
October 09, 2019
Update: The scheduled Cash for Trash event for October 19 is cancelled due to the approaching storm.
Fall is the perfect time to clean out the trash and clutter filling your house and garage. To help you get rid of unwanted items, the City of Tallahassee will offer its biannual Cash for Trash event on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Beautification and Waste Management facility, located at 2727 Municipal Way.
Residents are encouraged to bring their household hazardous waste items and bulky items that are too large to fit in their 96-gallon garbage container to the City’s Waste Management facility. Items brought to the event are properly disposed of or recycled for beneficial use. Examples of items residents may bring to Cash for Trash include batteries, electronics, cleaners, paints, pesticides and solvents. These household hazardous waste items can have serious impacts to the environment if improperly disposed of through the trash or sewer system. Residents may also bring old furniture, large and small household appliances and tires (limit of four per customer, no commercial tires).
As a thank you, participating City residential utility customers with an active refuse account will receive a $5 credit toward their utility bill. To receive the utility bill credit, customers must present a City utility bill before unloading materials. Customers can make multiple trips; however, only one credit per utility bill will be provided. This allows customers disposing of items for their neighbors to do so and assist them in reaping the benefits of the Cash for Trash event.
Though the City encourages residential utility customers to use their every-other-week bulky item collection service for disposing of large items at the curb, Cash for Trash provides an alternative method of disposal.
This event is not for commercial customers. Also, no household garbage, construction/demolition debris or yard debris will be accepted.
The City is dedicated to being a leader in the field of sustainability. Annual events like Cash for Trash, single-stream recycling and initiatives like the Clean Energy Resolution adopted earlier this year by the Tallahassee City Commission put into action the organization’s commitment to environmentally friendly practices.
Cash for Trash, which takes place on the third Saturday of April and October each year, is coordinated by the City’s Community Beautification and Waste Management department. Visit Talgov.com/YOU or call 850-891-4968 for more information.
