City Commission to Tour New 40-MW Solar Farm
November 08, 2019
What: On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Tallahassee City Commissioners will tour Tallahassee Solar Farm II, the community’s second solar farm. During the tour, Commissioners will take part in installing the farm’s very last solar panel, marking a major milestone in construction.
When: Tuesday, Nov. 12, beginning at 1 p.m.
Where: Tallahassee Solar Farm II Construction Site
Who: Mayor and City Commissioners, City Manager and representatives from the City’s Electric Utility and Origis Energy USA
Details: Once completed, Tallahassee Solar Farm II will be twice as big as its predecessor, Tallahassee Solar Farm I, which began operating in January 2018. Over 100,000 thin-film solar panels will make up Tallahassee Solar Farm II, which will sit on 240 acres of Tallahassee International Airport (TLH) property. The community’s second solar farm will be 40 megawatts (MW).
Earlier this year, the Tallahassee City Commission unanimously voted to adopt a Clean Energy Resolution, strengthening the City’s commitment to sustainability. The construction of Tallahassee’s second solar farm, which brings the total solar production to 60 megawatts when coupled with Tallahassee Solar Farm I, moves the community closer to achieving 100 percent renewable energy by 2050.
The tour will begin at Compass Point, located at 3256 Capital Circle SW. From there, City Commissioners will travel to Tallahassee Solar Farm II, which is an active construction site.
Media representatives are asked to confirm attendance by calling Alison Faris at 850-891-8533.
