A Celebration of Tallahassee’s Vibrant Neighborhoods
City’s Neighborhood Awards Program Honors Those Making a Positive Impact
December 11, 2019
Last night, the City of Tallahassee hosted the 2019 Neighborhood Awards Program Reception and Awards Ceremony (see photo gallery) to recognize the many neighborhoods and individuals that have made positive contributions to the Tallahassee community within the last year. During the application window, which was between October 10 and November 22, the City received 29 submissions.
“Good neighbors make great neighborhoods, and great neighborhoods are the root of Tallahassee’s strength,” Mayor Pro Tem Dianne Williams-Cox said. “Congratulations and thank you to the winners and all of the nominees for their investment in and passion for our community.”
Five awards were presented.
Receiving the award for Large Neighborhood of the Year (more than 200 homes) was a tie between Indianhead Lehigh Neighborhood Association and Betton Hills Neighborhood Association. Winner of Small Neighborhood of the Year (200 or fewer homes) was Brookwood Drive Neighborhood Association. These winning neighborhoods will receive a sign to display at their entrance and bragging rights as a Neighborhood of the Year.
Awards were also presented to the Summerbrooke Homeowners Association for the Best Physical Improvement and Indianhead Lehigh Neighborhood Association for the Best Social Improvement. Dr. Aaron Myers from the Carolina Oaks Neighborhood Association was recognized as the 2019 Neighbor of the Year among the seven nominees in that category.
The theme of the night was “Fall in Love with Your Neighborhood,” which was fitting as everyone in attendance has shown a commitment to improving their neighborhood and, in turn, the community.
