Twelve Days of Christmas Cheer with TPD
December 12, 2019
The Tallahassee Police Department is sharing some holiday cheer this season in many ways. During the course of the year, our officers and personnel work closely with organizations and individuals. We want to give back to the community and share the spirit of the season. We have twelve (12) projects we are organizing for each member of TPD to give back to the community. Each Bureau and several specific units have a special plan to help an organization or individuals in Tallahassee.
A big event will occur today, Thursday, December 12, 2019. Santa has come early to Tallahassee and will have a new sleigh for the day. He will be riding in our Bearcat vehicle used by the T.A.C. Team with Copper, TPD’s Crime Fighting K9 mascot. Santa and Copper will be paying a visit to a number of locations and making random stops to interact with citizens to share some holiday cheer.
We will be sharing pictures and information on our social media pages for each project. We invite you to follow along as we share the spirit of the holiday season.
Other Events and projects for TPD’s Twelve Days of Christmas Cheer include:
Heroes and Helpers
December 5, 2019 at Target on Apalachee Parkway. This annual event provides local children and their families the opportunity to buy gifts and spend time with our officers.
Family Holiday Sponsorship
TPD’s Operations Bureau has asked each patrol shift to sponsor a family who is without a home this Christmas and staying in a local shelter. Officers and patrol personnel are providing needed items and gifts for each family member to brighten their holiday.
Helping Veterans During the Holidays
Our High Risk Offenders (HRO) Bureau is working with the Tallahassee Veteran’s Village to provide non-perishable food items. HRO is also working with the Honor Flight by getting members of TPD to write cards of thanks which will be given to veterans who have served.
Happy Holidays for Local Seniors
Our Administrative Services Bureau is working with the Tallahassee Senior Center to host a holiday party with seniors who are spending time without any family this Christmas. TPD employees will spend time with the seniors during the event to provide for a brighter holiday season.
The Office of the Chief will be providing gifts for senior citizens through the Elder Elf program with Elder Care Services. The Public Information Officer will deliver wrapped gifts to two seniors who are part of the Elder Elf program.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Big Bend
Numerous investigators mentor a child with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Big Bend (BBBS) through the Bigs in Blue program along with several officers from other bureaus. We spend time with the children each week at their schools. We want to show them how much we appreciate them being in our life by hosting a holiday lunch and party for the BBBS participants.
Happy Holidays for NICU at TMH
The Personnel Development Bureau is hosting a clothing and sock drive to provide to families who have babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The babies are very small and some families are not prepared with clothing to fit them. TPD wants to help.
Holiday Food Drive for Second Harvest
The Special Response Team is comprised of officers from various bureaus within the agency. They are collecting non-perishable food items during their full team practice night and throughout the department. Food items will be donated to Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
Soul Santa
Our Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Squad is helping with Soul Santa. They will be helping escort Santa to various community centers in Tallahassee and help had out Christmas gifts. This event is enjoyed by all!
Silver Santa
Each year our Community Relations Unit (CRU) partners with Miracle Village, an independent living facility, to provide needed items to the residents. A Christmas Tree is placed in the rotunda for TPD employees to choose a tag specifying the needs of several local seniors. The gifts are wrapped and delivered to the seniors by CRU officers.
Salvation Army Kettle Bell Ringing
Members of Command Staff will be at the Lake Ella Publix on December 17, 2019 throughout the day to ring the bell for the Salvation Army. Stop by and see us!
