Recycle Your Holiday Trash! Don’t Let Your Box Lead to a Burglary
December 23, 2019
The Tallahassee Police Department, in conjunction with the City of Tallahassee’s Community Beautification and Waste Management department, is joining forces to help you prevent crime during the holidays. Instead of placing your empty gift boxes at the curb, which can serve as an advertisement of the presents you received, we are offering additional receptacles specifically for those cardboard boxes.
The reason is simple. The boxes serve as billboards for criminals driving through your neighborhood looking to see who received the newest televisions, video games or other electronics. Instead of leaving those boxes in front of your home, simply bring them to the designated “cardboard only” receptacles at Jack McLean Park, San Luis Mission Park, Tom Brown Pak, and Myers Park. Our goal is to reduce the residential burglaries and recycle more cardboard. Don’t let your trash make you a target for criminals. Live-cut Christmas trees may also be dropped of at these locations for recycling. When dropping off your live-cut tree, remove all decorations; these trees will be recycled into mulch for use in City parks. Live-cut trees can also be included in your usual yard waste pile for curbside pickup.
