Arrest Made After Pursuit
April 01, 2020
Shortly before 4:00pm, TPD responded to the Chevron Gas Station in the 2700 block of Centerville Road to investigate an Auto Theft which had just occurred. The adult female victim reported someone had just stolen her car from the parking lot and provided a description of a female suspect.
Just prior to officers arriving, the victim said the suspect had stopped her car before leaving the parking lot and abandoned it. The suspect then approached two other vehicles in the parking lot, attempting to enter one unoccupied vehicle and one occupied vehicle before fleeing on foot into another parking lot. The suspect reached the 2500 block of Cathay Court where she entered the driver’s side of a vehicle which still had an occupant in the passenger side. The suspect drove away, preventing the passenger from exiting the car. When the victim attempted to use their phone to call for help, the suspect pulled the phone away and threw it outside the vehicle. The victim was able to escape the car after traveling a short distance and the suspect drove away.
The Leon County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit’s helicopter spotted the vehicle at the intersection of Bannerman Road and Thomasville Road. A TPD unit was at the same intersection and attempted to stop the suspect, who immediately fled at high speed. During the pursuit, the Florida Highway Patrol and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office assisted. The pursuit ended on Roberts Road in Northeast Tallahassee when it purposefully collided head-on at a low speed with an on oncoming vehicle. The suspect exited the stolen vehicle and entered the vehicle she had just struck in an attempt to force the driver to take them from the scene.
Officers who had been involved in the pursuit arrived immediately and took the suspect into custody after using a TASER.
The investigation into this incident is still ongoing, and there may be additional charges filed by the time it concludes.
There were no reported injuries during this incident.
