Neighborhood Leadership Academy Goes Virtual
Program Provides Citizens with In-Depth Look at City Services
August 14, 2020
As the largest single provider of municipal services in our region, the City of Tallahassee is a driving force for creating a strong community – one that supports vibrant neighborhoods and an innovative economy, while protecting natural resources and preserving the community's unique character. Each year, the City's Neighborhood Leadership Academy (NLA) provides an opportunity for citizens to get a first-hand look at the immense impact the City makes in the community.
This year, with the health and safety of participants and staff in mind, the 2020 Neighborhood Leadership Academy will be presented as a completely virtual experience during the 10-week course. Using a video communication platform, programming will include webinar-style presentations and interactive discussions on a wide variety of topics related to City services and programs including public safety, parks and recreation, sustainability, traffic management, planning, permitting and much more. Sessions will occur every Tuesday evening from 6-7:30 p.m., with the first session taking place on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Applications are currently being accepted. Citizens interested in participating can submit a request online at Talgov.com/NLA. Registration is limited and will close by August 31.
NLA offers an instructional and interactive forum designed to empower citizens with specialized knowledge about how their local government is working to be the national leader in the delivery of public service. With a focus on public safety and customer service, personal interaction with various City departments will allow participants to better understand City programs and services and how to access them. NLA also serves as a venue for participants to provide feedback on how services could be enhanced.
During this dynamic 10-week course, class participants will engage with staff and learn about various aspects of City operations – from future development plans at the Airport to youth education and empowerment programs like TEMPO. To maximize the experience, participants should plan to attend every session.
