Today, the Mayor and City Commissioners celebrated the impending completion of the Weems Road Pedestrian and Street Safety (PASS) project. As the project nears completion, which is on schedule for the end of this month, Weems Road is now open to traffic.

Work to enhance mobility, safety and utility infrastructure along Weems Road south of Mahan Drive began in the summer of 2019. The construction of a sidewalk on the west side of the road and a 12-foot-wide multi-use trail on the east side of the road provides an opportunity for pedestrians and cyclists to travel the area safely and conveniently. The new roundabout located at Weems Road and Dartmouth Drive will help improve traffic flow, particularly for residents in the Weems Plantation neighborhood. Construction of a new bridge will help alleviate flooding that has historically occurred in the area.
Complementing these enhancements is the recently completed Weems Road Extension, which extends the roadway north of Mahan Drive to connect with Capital Circle Northeast. Opening last month, the extension creates an alternate route around one of Tallahassee’s busiest intersections at Capital Circle and Mahan Drive, while also enhancing mobility with the addition of a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail. The trail, which runs alongside the east side of the roadway, connects to Goose Pond Trail as part of the Greenway Master Plan.
Combined, these projects represent an investment of more than $20 million by the City of Tallahassee to build connections, enhance mobility, provide quality infrastructure and ultimately strengthen the community. For more information about City-related projects, visit Talgov.com.
