City Expands Residential Façade Improvement Grant
Residents in the Bond Community Can Apply Now for Exterior Home Improvements
September 16, 2020
The City of Tallahassee is expanding the Residential Facade Improvement Grant Program, an element of the Greater Bond Neighborhood First Plan. With $500,000 of Community Redevelopment Agency funding available, the program is designed to help preserve and improve the exterior of homes within the Bond Community, a neighborhood located within the boundaries of the Greater Frenchtown/Southside Community Redevelopment Area (CRA GFS District).
Through this program, homeowners in the Greater Bond neighborhood may be eligible to receive up to $17,000 to improve the exterior of their home or rental property.
During the first round of the Residential Façade Improvement Program, 13 homes were selected for improvements, which ranged from exterior paint and new windows to fencing, landscaping and more.
To apply, visit Talgov.com/BondFacade. The application period closes on October 16. Residents who applied during the first phase of the program last year need not reapply, as they will be considered during this next phase of funding.
For new applicants, assistance will be available at the Southside Farmers Market on September 17 and October 8, from 2-6 p.m., weather permitting. The market is located outside of the Walker-Ford Community Center at 2301 Pasco Street. Application assistance is also available by calling the City’s Neighborhood Affairs Division at 850-891-8795.
Residents living outside of the Greater Bond neighborhood who are interested in applying for grant funds for home improvements can visit Talgov.com/Housing to learn more about the City’s CARES Home Repair Program.
The Greater Bond Neighborhood First Plan was adopted by the Greater Bond Neighborhood Association on September 24, 2018, and adopted by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) on December 13, 2018. The plan addresses the neighborhood's top priorities and concerns: Community Beautification, Land Use, Economic Development and Resident Empowerment and Neighborhood Safety and Crime Prevention. The exclusive focus of the plan is to make the Greater Bond neighborhood a better place to live, work and play.
