Community Tip Leads to Arrest of Wanted Suspect

On Nov. 10, the Tallahassee Police Department was following up on tips about a known wanted person believed to be involved in illegal drug activity in the 300 block of White Drive.
TPD's Special Investigations Section, with assistance from the Community Oriented Policing and Problem-Solving Squad (COPPS), located the suspect and attempted to arrest him based on his wanted status. When the suspect saw the officers, he got in a nearby vehicle to flee. He reversed the vehicle into a parked car before getting out to run. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, probable cause was developed to search the suspect's vehicle. Officers located close to 30 grams of Alpha-PVP, five grams of methamphetamine, several rocks of crack cocaine and more than $600.

Arrested:
Gene Atkins, 44, for trafficking in Alpha-PVP, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest without violence, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and outstanding warrants.
