Tallahassee Police Make Arrest in Fatal Crash on North Monroe Street
November 18, 2020
The Tallahassee Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit has been working diligently to bring closure for the victim’s family in a fatal crash that occurred earlier this month.
After an extensive investigation and consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, investigators developed probable cause and obtained warrants for the driver involved in this crash. The suspect was taken into custody on Nov. 17 by TPD with assistance from the United States Marshal Service and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility.
The investigation revealed that, just after 11 a.m. on Nov. 8, a Honda Accord driven by the arrestee veered off the roadway in the 2700 block of North Monroe Street near Sharer Road and struck a pedestrian. The vehicle continued to drive through the parking lots of two businesses before coming to a stop. Witnesses on scene told the arrestee about the pedestrian involved in the crash, and the arrestee fled the scene.
On the day of the incident, responding officers attempted lifesaving efforts for the victim before he was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Driving is a responsibility. If you are involved in a vehicle crash, Florida law requires that you immediately contact local law enforcement.
