TFD Responds to Two Residential Structure Fires

At 5:10 p.m. on Oct. 8, Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a report of a fire at an apartment within the 600 block of W. Fourth Ave. Units arrived to smoke showing and an active kitchen fire, made a quick knockdown and contained the fire to the kitchen of the residence.
One occupant was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. TFD was assisted by the Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County EMS.
At 5:52 p.m., TFD was dispatched to a residential fire within the 3000 block of McCord Blvd. Upon arrival, crews found smoke showing from the front of the house. The fire originated in the garage.
One occupant was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, and several pets were safely rescued. TFD was assisted by the Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sheriff's Office and Leon County EMS.
To help prevent fires while cooking, keep flammable items away from the stove top, wear short or close-fitting sleeves when cooking and have a lid nearby to quickly cover and smother a fire.
Smoke alarms can provide the early warning necessary to escape a deadly fire.
