Community Invited to Celebrate Grand Opening of Four Oaks Park
February 09, 2023
The City of Tallahassee continues to expand its parks system, and the community is invited to celebrate! Grand opening festivities for Four Oaks Park will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25. There will be a variety of exciting activities for the entire family to enjoy.
The celebration will kick off at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the City's 94th park and recognize the hard work of City staff, including the City's Parks and Recreation crew who constructed the park and its many amenities.
"Tallahassee's large, diverse, world-class park system is second to none," Mayor John Dailey said. "As our community grows, we are growing with it. The completion of Four Oaks Park marks another milestone toward the City's strategic goal of increasing the number of parks available for residents and visitors to enjoy. With 94 parks totaling nearly 4,000 acres and more than 70 miles of trails, there is truly something for everyone!"
Located at the corner of Four Oaks Boulevard and Tram Road, Four Oaks Park is the largest park in southeast Tallahassee spanning more than 40 acres. It offers a playground, multi-purpose sports fields and basketball, beach volleyball and pickleball courts, as well as open spaces for passive recreation. The stand-out element of the park, however, is its cricket field – the City's first! Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, Mayor Dailey will bowl the first ball on the new cricket field to start a friendly exhibition game by local players.
From 10:30 a.m. to noon, there will be opportunities to learn about each sport, with skills clinics for basketball and beach volleyball and a beginner pickleball extravaganza. No registration is required, and all ages are welcome. There will also be open play courts available during this time, and all courts will be available for open play after noon.
In addition to fun and games, attendees will enjoy complimentary sweet treats and commemorative giveaways throughout the day while supplies last. Food trucks will also be on site, with refreshments available for purchase.
Bring your family and friends to explore the great things Four Oaks Park brings to the community. Park entrances are located on Four Oaks Boulevard and Schoolhouse Road. For more information about parks and recreation opportunities offered by the City of Tallahassee, visit Talgov.com/Parks.
