City Attorney Amy M. Toman
Prior to being appointed as City Attorney in January 2024, Toman served as the interim City Attorney and the Deputy City Attorney. Ms. Toman earned her undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Boston College and her Juris Doctorate from Loyola University of Chicago. She is a member in good standing with the Florida Bar and the Bar of Illinois and a member of the Tallahassee Women Lawyers Association and the Tallahassee Bar Association. She also holds a Certified Public Manager (CPM) designation from Florida State University. Ms. Toman began her profession in private practice in Chicago but, since relocating to Florida in 1996, she has dedicated her career to public service. Ms. Toman’s past positions include Executive Director of the Florida Elections Commission, Deputy General Counsel for the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, and Attorney Analyst for the Florida Senate Committee on Children, Families and Elder Affairs. Her career focus on ethics, public records, and open government led to Ms. Toman serving on the steering committee for the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws (COGEL) and she was elected to serve as the national organization’s President in 2019. Outside of work, Ms. Toman enjoys spending time with her husband, entertaining and traveling to visit their two daughters who live in Chicago.
