Work Begins on the Orange Avenue/Meridian Road Placemaking
Temporary Improvements Support Current Use
June 17, 2019
Construction work has officially begun on the Orange Avenue/Meridian Road Placemaking project site. The work currently underway includes temporary improvements in advance of the project’s next stage, which includes a StarMetro Super Stop. The Orange Avenue/Meridian Road site is currently home to several community activities, such as weekly food distribution and food trucks, and those activities will continue on site throughout construction. Based on community input, the current construction adds a number of temporary and permanent benefits for area residents and commuters alike. The temporary improvements in progress include the cleaning and grading of the site, the installation of landscaping and a gravel parking area, as well as the addition of two ADA compliant parking spaces, a water fountain, bike rack, a restroom and picnic tables. Additionally, permanent improvements that will be retained in the next stage of the project include enhanced lighting, and sidewalk and crosswalk improvements.
In order to provide a safe work environment, a fence has been installed around the construction area and will remain in place for the duration of construction, which is scheduled to be completed by late-summer 2019.
