TPD Makes Felony Gun Arrest

A Tallahassee Police Department traffic stop lead to a felony gun arrest last night at about 11:45 p.m. on South Monroe Street in the area of Putnam Drive. A TPD patrol officer was proactively working in the area and conducted the stop for an equipment violation on the vehicle. The driver was identified as Edward Bivins.
Based on the officer’s observations he decided to have a K-9 unit perform a narcotics sniff of the exterior of the vehicle. The K-9 positively alerted to the presence of drugs leading to a search of the vehicle. During the vehicle search, officers located a AK-47 style pistol and a .40 caliber handgun in various locations within the interior of the vehicle. Mr. Bivins was on felony probation for carrying a concealed weapon at the time of the traffic stop. The guns were seized as evidence and impounded at TPD.
Mr. Bivins was placed under arrest and transported to the Leon County Receiving Facility for processing.
The probable cause is attached to this release and has been redacted in accordance with Florida Statute 119.071(5)(a) & 119.071(2)(e).
