Proactive Patrol Leads to an Arrest for Drugs and a Firearm

The Tallahassee Police Department made an arrest for possession of a firearm and drugs on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 around 7:00 p.m. at the Cottages of Magnolia located at 2202 Magnolia Circle. The Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Squad was conducting proactive patrol in response to citizen complaints and in an attempt to deter criminal activity. Officers noticed a vehicle with several occupants and spoke with them as they patrolled the area. During their contact with the occupants of the vehicle, officers became aware of drug activity inside the vehicle and developed probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle.
After an extensive on-scene investigation, officers confiscated over 500 grams of cannabis, a loaded 9mm handgun and over 13,000 in cash. The items were impounded at the Tallahassee Police Department for safe keeping and as evidence. The driver of the vehicle, Christopher Young, was arrested and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility for processing.
