Just before noon today, Nov. 2, the Tallahassee Police Department responded to reports of gunshots fired at an individual in the 3500 block of West Orange Avenue. Responding officers determined no one was injured but located evidence of a shooting.
A description of the suspect’s vehicle was provided to dispatch, and members of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office in the area quickly located the vehicle on Americana Street. There were three people inside the vehicle when it was located; two of them were detained. A third person fled on foot.
Shortly thereafter, dispatch received a call about a carjacking in the 100 block of Great Lakes Street. The vehicle was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed.
Units from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office pursued the vehicle until it became disabled due to a flat tire on Limpkin Lane. The suspect then fled into the woods. Deputies and witnesses in the neighborhood observed the suspect still carrying a handgun.
After an intensive search by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Tallahassee Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was taken into custody.
