TPD Builds Hope with Children, Families and Community
TPD Raises Awareness during Child Abuse Prevention Month
April 07, 2021
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Nearly 700,000 children are abused in the United States each year, according to the National Children's Alliance. This is a preventable crime, which is why the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) partnered with Prevent Child Abuse Florida on a new vehicle wrap, unveiled today, April 7, to help raise awareness.
Signifying their commitment to helping children in Tallahassee, TPD officers also planted a pinwheel garden in front of TPD's headquarters on Seventh Avenue as part of the National Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign. The campaign aims to increase awareness that child abuse can be prevented through community support. TPD officers were joined in this effort by children from Scottsdale Academy. The blue and silver pinwheel garden symbolizes the health and happiness all children deserve.
"April is an extremely important month to our department every year. Our team does tremendous work to dismantle child abuse and neglect, and through awareness efforts and partnerships, we're able to help educate the community about prevention and support resources," Chief Lawrence Revell said. "Together, we can make great childhoods a reality for more Tallahassee children."
Prevent Child Abuse Florida is a State Chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, the nation's largest and oldest organization committed to preventing child abuse and neglect before it happens. The organization exists to promote programs and resources that enable kids, families and communities to thrive by building great childhoods. For more information, visit www.PreventChildAbuseFL.org.
