Celebrate National Night Out with TPD
Annual event aims to foster positive relationships within the community
July 28, 2021
National Night Out is an annual community-oriented initiative that aims to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and citizens. To celebrate this year, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) will host a free community event in Cascades Park on Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 6-8 p.m.
When it began in 1984, 2.5 million Americans in 400 communities in 23 states participated. Today, more than 30 million people in over 10,000 communities from all 50 states participate in National Night Out.
This year’s local, family friendly event in Cascades Park will be held in partnership with the Tallahassee Fire Department; Florida Highway Patrol; Emergency Medical Services; Animal Control; City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs; TPD Advisory Councils; and Mission BBQ. Residents can look forward to music from a DJ, face painting, free goodies and pet adoption opportunities.
“National Night Out is a chance for neighbors to meet neighbors. It also allows residents to get to know the officers serving their community,” Chief Lawrence Revell said. “We understand the importance of bridging the gap between law enforcement and citizens, and this is another fun way to build connections.”
National Night Out is a positive community event that:
- Heightens crime and drug prevention awareness.
- Generates support for and participation in local anti-crime programs.
- Strengthens neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
- Sends a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
TPD’s Community Relations Unit, Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving Squad (COPPS), and Motor Unit will be on-site to share home and business security information and services available to help protect you and your property.
