TPD Wins Fourth Place in International SWAT Competition
November 18, 2021
Last week the Tallahassee Police Department’s Tactical Apprehension and Control (TAC) Team competed in the 2021 International SWAT Roundup competition in Orlando, Florida. The team finished fourth overall against more than 40 teams from around the world.
This annual competition is broken down into five events that are simultaneously used as training exercises. These events are designed to mirror real-life scenarios and are intended to challenge the team as a unit. The week-long competition tests each officer’s technical skills and ability to move dynamically, think on the fly and make hard decisions.
“I am so proud of this team and their unwavering dedication to being the best,” said Chief Lawrence Revell. “As a former TAC member and having competed in this competition in the past, I know how challenging events like the SWAT Roundup can be. This achievement is not just for the members of the team or for the agency; it’s for our community. It serves as a reminder of how hard our specialty units train, so they are always prepared to face any situation.”
TPD’s Tactical Apprehension and Control Team (TAC) is a well-trained team that responds to high-risk incidents throughout the city. Their areas of expertise include hostage rescue, armed barricaded subjects, high-risk search warrants, active shooter incidents and other critical incidents.
The team is available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, always ready to respond. The citizens of the City of Tallahassee should feel comfortable knowing they have a well-trained, world-renowned team to respond to assist them if a critical incident were to occur.
