PSCO Justin Johnson is selected as the 2022 State of Florida Department of Health Public Safety Telecommunicator of the Year.

On the evening of September 14, 2022, Public Safety Communications Operator (PSCO) Justin Johnson was presented the 2022 State of Florida Department of Health Public Safety Telecommunicator of the Year Award at the Florida Department of Health’s Annual Emergency Services Award Banquet held in Orlando. This event, hosted by the Florida Department of Health for over 25 years, “recognizes the men and women who provide lifesaving services in times of crisis”. A selection is made from nominations received from across the State of Florida.
PSCO Johnson has been employed with the Consolidated Dispatch Agency 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Tallahassee Leon County since 2017. He is a State Certified Telecommunicator and a Communications Training Officer, accomplished on all communications disciplines: 9-1-1 call taking, law enforcement radio dispatch, fire radio dispatch, and law enforcement teletype. The nomination, submitted by PSCO Johnson’s supervisors and peers, states, “PSCO Johnson is patient, has a consistently positive attitude, and immense knowledge of our communications field...(his) attention to detail and great interpersonal skills helped him become one of the most efficient, trustworthy, and dependable communications operators.” Accompanying the nomination was reference to a lifesaving call. On Father’s Day 2021, PSCO Johnson’s patience and knowledge were in usual full force when he worked his first 9-1-1 call of the evening. At PSCO Johnson’s direction, CPR was appropriately administered to a young person in medical crisis. One year after the event, the family offered appreciation to PSCO Johnson for his “calm steady reassuring voice”. The CPR performed at PSCO Johnson’s direction was a key-factor in saving the young person’s life.
