City’s Natural Gas Utility Wins Top National Awards
July 24, 2017
Today, the City of Tallahassee's Underground Utilities and Public Infrastructure (UUPI) department received two national awards from the American Public Gas Association (APGA). The awards recognize the City's Gas Utility division for excellence in the areas of operations and marketing.
Competing with more than 700 public gas systems across the nation, the City's Gas Utility earned the esteemed Gold Level System Operational Achievement Recognition (SOAR) Award, the highest designation that can be achieved by a public utility. The receipt of this award marks the second time that the City's Gas Utility has received the SOAR Award, making it the only gas system to receive the prestigious award twice. The SOAR Award recognizes operational excellence for system integrity, system improvement, employee safety and workforce development.
The City's Gas Utility also received the Marketing and Sales Runner Up Award for its innovative and highly successful advertising programs. These programs helped lead to substantial customer growth in the last year.
"As the #1 Public Utility in America, it's fitting that our City's Natural Gas Utility has been recognized in the industry for its unparalleled service," Mayor Andrew Gillum said. "These top honors not only demonstrate our outstanding achievements in safety and customer service, but they showcase our commitment to being an innovative and forward thinking leader in the utility sector."
The City of Tallahassee's Natural Gas Utility provides clean, safe, economical and reliable natural gas to residents and businesses in Leon, Gadsden and Wakulla counties. The system is comprised of 920 miles of underground gas mains, which serve over 30,000 customers.
