Tallahassee Senior Center for the ArtsFounded in 1980, the Tallahassee Senior Center for the Arts offers a supportive environment for both beginning and advanced artists to receive guidance from experienced instructors. Students also benefit from ongoing art exhibits, special classes, and opportunities to display and sell their art.

Weekly Studio Classes

On-going studio classes meet on a weekly basis and do not require pre-registration. Pay the days you attend. Before joining, visit the class, chat with the instructor, and receive a supply list.

Studio Artists have the opportunity to exhibit work in the center's gallery spaces and on the tallahasseeseniorfoundation.org website.

All classes are located at the Senior Center Art Studio unless otherwise noted. $10 per class Seniors (age 50+), $12 Others (age 18-49). Or buy an art card that gives you eight classes for the price of seven.

Pastel Landscapes Lab, no instructor

Wednesdays, 9 – noon
Pastels can provide vibrancy and subtleties unlike other mediums. Some drawing or painting experience preferred. Ask for a supply list and/or visit the class before deciding to join.

Oil and Acrylic Painting, Intermediate Level with Debbie Gaedtke

Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Learn and develop basic skills and techniques with a versatile acrylic medium in a friendly, supportive class. For beginners, as well as continuing artists.

Oil and Acrylic Painting, Advanced Level with Debbie Gaedtke

Wednesdays, 1 - 4 p.m.
Learn and develop basic skills and techniques with a versatile acrylic medium in a friendly, supportive class. For beginners, as well as continuing artists.

Draw With Your Eyes, Paint with your Heart with Mark Fletcher

Wednesdays, 1:30-4 p.m. on Zoom
Pen & Ink with a little watercolor. Beginners welcome.

Experimental Watercolor, Intermediate-Advanced with Linda Pelc

Thursday Mornings 9:00 – noon
Thursday Afternoons, 1 – 4 pm
Enhance your creativity with projects, techniques and critique that will expand your skill set and knowledge of the medium.

Oil Painting, Advanced Level with Eluster Richardson

Fridays, 9 a.m. – noon.
Develop skills with oil painting. Not for beginners. New students may need to present a portfolio to be approved for this class.

On-Going Studio Labs

(No Instructor)

Portrait Studio Lab

Mon., 9 – noon, $5
Draw or paint from live model, bring your own art supplies, no instructor.

Ceramics

Wed. and Thur., 9 am – noon, $2 lab fee, plus cost of materials and firing fee.
Use mold-made bisque items to paint or glaze. Lead by helpful volunteers. Perfect for beginners.

Craft Classes

Crafts

All classes are $2 unless otherwise noted.

Nimble Fingers

Wednesdays, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Group works on cross stitch, crochet, knitting and other projects, depending on available materials. Anyone is welcome, with or without expertise in a craft.

Quilting Bees

Mondays, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.
Join other quilters and work at your own pace. Participants bring their own materials or use donated materials.

Capital City Wood Carvers

Mondays, 6 - 8 p.m.
New and experienced wood carvers are welcome. Bring a sharp knife, sandpaper and pencil with eraser. New members always welcome. $20 annually; fee pro-rated.

Model Ship Building

Fridays, 1 - 4 p.m.
Participants bring their own supplies and projects to work together in this informal setting.

Capital Chordsmen

Thursday, 6 - 8:15 p.m.
Male barbershop harmony chorus rehearsals. New members welcome!

Guitar

Tue., 4 – 5:30 p.m.
Dust off that old guitar and join an ongoing group of beginning-to-intermediate players. Come together, share songs and playing techniques. Limited instruction, knowledge of a few chords is helpful. $2

Senior Singers

(Anticipate returning in August)
Join the choir & sing popular music from 1900-1906, patriotic music and religious music! Requirements include a love of singing and a desire to have fun.

Ukulele Beginning

Classes provide information about the ukulele, and instruction on basic chords and strum patterns. Everyone is welcome! Bring your own uke!

Fingerstyle Ukulele Beginning Class

This class focuses on fingerstyle playing, as well as instrumental melody/chord arrangements. Also, basic music theory is taught as we play various pieces. Everyone is welcome, even if you think this level is too advanced for you. $2

Ukulele & Friends

Bring your instrument of choice and your voice. A casual gathering as we Sing For Our Lives. Learn songs for a peaceful planet. Versions of music that are ukulele friendly will be used though all instruments are welcome.
