Throughout the month of August, StarMetro is honoring local Purple Heart recipients and other veterans in honor of Purple Heart Day, August 7. Purple Heart recipients earn this medal by being wounded in combat or for giving their lives in battle for our country. Tallahassee is the first “Purple Heart Capital” in the nation, and August 7 has been designated Purple Heart Day in Florida. Fare FREE bus rides will be offered to everyone in the community to pay tribute to those who valiantly served our country. All residents are encouraged to ride StarMetro on August 7 to show their support for veterans, to wear purple and to volunteer their time by accompanying veterans on the bus or traveling on their behalf to meet their essential needs.
A specially-designed bus will showcase 12 local Purple Heart recipients, representing the more than 400 local Purple Heart heroes and all major U.S.-involved conflicts. The bus will be stationed at several key memorial sites throughout the community during the entire month of August. For specific locations, click here.
